Solar activity now acclerating on the Sun

Vatic Note:  Well, now we know why some of us have been feeling so weird.  LOL  Now, its a GOOD weird, not a bad one.   We do live in unique and exciting times,  I must say.  Everything is completely new and changed,  both bad and good.   If we can let go of the past,  deal with dumping our anchors,  we can go on the RIDE OF A LIFE TIME.  Yahoooo..... Ride em cowboy!   I can hardly wait to see how this all pans out and what will be our new reality.   Sit back and enjoy your universe.  Some are saying that the dwarf star is near and that is why the increase of activity.   As soon as I can confirm that, we will put it up, but right now, I have no second viable confirmation of it yet.   So hang on and we will give you what we find.

March 8, 2011 – HIGH SOLAR ACTIVITY: Solar Cycle 24 is heating up. No fewer than three sunspots (1164, 1165, and 1166) are crackling with M-class solar flares, and each of them has a delta-class magnetic field capable of producing even more powerful X-flares. -Space Weather South Africa: “The Hermanus Space Weather Warning Centre (SWWC) on Sunday said a large solar flare was currently being experienced in South Africa. The solar flare would result in higher radiation levels from the sun. SWWC’s forecaster Kobus Olckers said people should be careful when they go outside. “People must wear high sunscreen factor at the moment or preferably go shopping,” he said. A powerful solar flare could overwhelm high-voltage transformers with electrical currents and short-circuit energy grids, with one such event in 1989 disrupting power across the Canadian province of Quebec.” – IAfrica

(Now this from SOHO this past week on the 4th of March)

Far-side Blast (March 4, 2011)
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/pickoftheweek/

The STEREO (Ahead) spacecraft caught a large coronal mass ejection as it roared away from the Sun and out into space in the opposite direction from Earth (Feb. 26-28, 2011). The bright cloud of particles was one of most substantial eruptions that STEREO has observed. The major blast was followed by a much narrower and less bright one. The video clip covers a little more than two days. In these corongraph images, the Sun is blocked out by the red occulting disk and the size of the Sun is represented by the white circle.

SOHO began its Weekly Pick some time after sending a weekly image or video clip to the American Museum of Natural History (Rose Center) in New York City. There, the SOHO Weekly Pick is displayed with some annotations on a large plasma display.

If your institution would also like to receive the same Weekly Pick from us for display (usually in Photoshop or QuickTime format), please send your inquiry to steele.hill@gsfc.nasa.gov.
