Goldman Sachs involved in Sex Trafficking?

THE biggest forum for sex trafficking of under-age girls in the United States appears to be a Web site called Backpage.com.

This emporium for girls and women — some under age or forced into prostitution — is in turn owned by an opaque private company called Village Voice Media. Until now it has been unclear who the ultimate owners are. 

That mystery is solved. The owners turn out to include private equity financiers, including Goldman Sachs with a 16 percent stake. 

Goldman Sachs was mortified when I began inquiring last week about its stake in America’s leading Web site for prostitution ads. It began working frantically to unload its shares, and on Friday afternoon it called to say that it had just signed an agreement to sell its stake to management. 

“We had no influence over operations,” Andrea Raphael, a Goldman Sachs spokeswoman, told me.

Let’s back up for a moment. There’s no doubt that many escort ads on Backpage are placed by consenting adults. But it’s equally clear that Backpage plays a major role in the trafficking of minors or women who are coerced. In one recent case in New York City, prosecutors say that a 15-year-old girl was drugged, tied up, raped and sold to johns through Backpage and other sites.

Backpage has 70 percent of the market for prostitution ads, according to AIM Group, a trade organization.

Village Voice Media makes some effort to screen out ads placed by traffickers and to alert authorities to abuses, but neither law enforcement officials nor antitrafficking organizations are much impressed. As a result, pressure is growing on the company to drop escort ads.

After my last column on this issue, 19 U.S. senators wrote the company, asking it to stop abetting traffickers. On Thursday, antitrafficking campaigners protested outside the Village Voice newspaper (which is owned by Village Voice Media). A petition on Change.org criticizing the company has gathered 220,000 signatures.

In Washington State, the governor signed a bill into law on Thursday that could expose Backpage to criminal sanctions if it advertises under-age girls for sex without verifying their ages. (There’s some uncertainty about the constitutionality of the law.)

Village Voice Media has been able to resist pressure partly because, as a private company, it doesn’t disclose its owners. But I’ve obtained documents that, with some digging, shed light on who’s behind it.

The two biggest owners are Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, the managers of the company, and they seem to own about half of the shares. The best known of the other owners is Goldman Sachs, which invested in the company in 2000 (before Backpage became a part of Village Voice Media in a 2006 merger).

A Goldman managing director, Scott L. Lebovitz, sat on the Village Voice Media board for many years. Goldman says he stepped down in early 2010.

Let’s be clear: this is a tiny investment by a huge company, and I have no reason to think that Goldman’s top executives knew of its connection to sex trafficking.

Goldman prides itself on its work on gender: its 10,000 Women initiative does splendid work supporting women in business around the globe. Full disclosure:

Goldman’s foundation was one of about 15 funders of a public television documentary version of a book that my wife and I wrote about the world’s women.

That said, for more than six years Goldman has held a significant stake in a company notorious for ties to sex trafficking, and it sat on the company’s board for four of those years. There’s no indication that Goldman or anyone else ever used its ownership to urge Village Voice Media to drop escort ads or verify ages. Elizabeth L. McDougall, chief counsel for Village Voice Media, told me Friday that she was “unaware of any dissent” from owners.

Several lesser-known financial companies also hold significant stakes in Village Voice Media, and one person close to the company says that there are about a dozen owners in all. One is Trimaran, an investment company in New York. It wouldn’t disclose the size of its stake but told me that it had “no influence whatsoever” on management and is now trying to sell its shares.

Two other companies, Alta Communications and Brynwood Partners, did not respond to my repeated inquiries about ties to Village Voice Media (Brynwood may be an asset manager rather than an owner). One thought: If the minority shareholders, Goldman included, worked together instead of rushing for the exits, they might be able to pressure Village Voice Media to get out of escort ads.

There are no easy solutions to sex trafficking. I think the most important single step is for prosecutors to focus more on pimps and johns. Closing down the leading Web site used by traffickers would complicate their lives, and after so many years of girls being trafficked on this site, it’s time to hold owners accountable.

Vatic Note:   Our Vatic note on Part I pretty much covers what we have to say, however, the update is even more interesting and I am now even more convinced this is a real event and the powers that be chose now to do their agenda given this opportunity to "never let a good crisis go to waste" and thus take advantage of it for their own ends, which always hurts us and not them.  However, things can change.  hehehe   After all, its the "return of the ancestors and wisemen"  According to the Mayan Shaman we posted a year ago Christmas, so hang on, the 1000 year millenium is on its way.  Good news for good guys, Bad news for soul-less creatures.

Of course there is controversy. The Spanish asrtonomers, who call themselves the "Starviewer Team" must still convince the scientific community that G.19 is not a supernova, but rather a brown dwarf star inside our Solar System. This is not an easy task. But we asked them to do just that for this article.  

The image .... shows the evidence that the object has increased in size over the 23 years that it has been observed. On the left, the blue spherical shape was recorded in radio wavelengths in 1985 by the Very Large Array. The image on the right shows the same view taken in 2008. It is obvious that the object is larger, but critics say that this is not because the object is closer, but rather that the residual "shell" from the exploding star has advanced out from its origin. They note the shape is not spherical but consistent with the type of remnants usually seen with supernova. 

                                    

In this image [above] we see the original 1985 radio emission image from VLA compared to the 2007 x-ray image taken by the Chandra Observatory. Critics again point to the lack of central imaging (i.e. where is the brown dwarf?) and question why orbiting planets would emit irregularly shaped x-rays.

Why is there such a sudden obsession with monitoring what average Americans are saying on Facebook and Twitter?  To be honest, the vast majority of what is being said on Facebook and Twitter is simply not worth reading even if you could understand it.  But for the FBI, the CIA, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Reserve, Facebook and Twitter represent a treasure trove of intelligence information.

                                                                         
Tens of millions of us have compiled incredibly detailed dossiers on ourselves and have put them out there for the entire world to see.  Since the information is public, the various alphabet agencies of the federal government see no problem with scooping up all of that information and using it for their own purposes.  Many potential employers have also discovered that Facebook and Twitter can tell them an awful lot about potential employees.  Social media creates a permanent record that reflects who you are and what you believe, and many Americans are finding out that all of this information can come back and haunt them in a big way.  In the world in which we now live, privacy is becoming a thing of the past, and we all need to be mindful of the things that we are exposing to the public.

Sadly, most Americans have absolutely no idea who is monitoring them on Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites these days.  The following are just a few examples....

........ I used to be a HUGE Madonna fan. Obsession probably doesn't begin to describe it. I even had collectibles worth a decent amount that I destroyed after I was pulled from the wreckage, by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  In honor of the One who saved me, I now write about this woman who has been used willingly since 1983, by satan and the New World Order elites to further their end time agenda.

Madonna is not merely some untalented pop tart singing sweet nothings into the ears of the masses that can  be considered harmless or to no effect. Quite the opposite as you will see. Just ask yourselves..... why did 20,000 bankers world wide resign within 10 days to two weeks of each other?  That is way too many to be a purging or prosecution of these bankers... further, here in Colorado the weather is getting weirder and weirder.  Winds that we NEVER get up here in the mountains are horrific and daily.  The dumping of chemtrails to hide "something" is apparent since these are not the traditional normal trails we are used to seeing.   Very little to no dandelions,  and the iris's and daffodils are practically none existant and those that managed to make it are pathetic and wilted, and small. Birds are also acting very funny.   Not their normal mating behavior and they are not eating.  Something is amiss. Add to that, this below serves to make us ask "Why and what is making the moon change its position?"   Lots of questions and no answers,  that requires us to put up everything we can find to begin to figure it out.  We need to do that in order to properly prepare for what ever is planned.   

Remember, our weather and other geological anomolies could also be the result of man made Haarp and it could be both Nibiru and man made to do the Rahm "take advantage of a good crisis" to complete their depopulation.  We are not bringing this up to scare anyone, rather to get righteously mad and use that energy to prepare.  Read this and decide for yourself, that is all we can do at this point, since there is no one in government or industry, that we can trust anymore.  We are who is going to save us.  We need to get used to that idea.

the idea girl says my photos don’t show all the circles on the moon being upside down. I’ve been watching it this week and i noticed that the moon’s axis tilted and shifted clockwise in the N W skies of Ontario Canada over the Pacific Ocean. I’m assuming the water level’s rose higher when this happened and i’m wondering if earth’s magnetoshphere went backwards as it did on march 12 2012.

the moon’s behavior might be the reason it’s tilting and flipping it’s axis from north to south then back to north.

All ocean levels and rain are causing MASS flooding on many islands in the pacific and southern oceans as I predicted in my videos back in early march.

I figured with over 23 asteroids near earth objects passing by several at a time, their combined gravitational pull is what’s affecting the moon and earth. (my theory)

I just don’t know how to prove it.

I went out for a walk again tonight and the moon’s not in the SW or Nw as usual around 1 00 am edt. it was south EAST.

But get this… I went for a walk at 730 pm and it was in the SE. so how can the moon stay in the same spot for several hours? unless it was spinning backwards or in retrograde?

All I can find is that mars is in retrograde and mars is usually SE of us during most of the night then it slips by on the SW, W by morning.

This time it’s middle of the area so I’d say the earth’s shifted maybe another 25 degrees South East as the moon is shifting North West to South East.

Its time we went back to that or simply do away with the markets and privately buy stocks since the purpose was suppose to be to allow industries to grow, not to facilitate bankers to steal.   We have not been screaming loud enough to the White House, justice dept.   It may not do any good, but at least they will know we are out here, mad  as heck and armed to the teeth.   May be that might change somethings.  Who knows.

There was a stunning comment (letter) left today on the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission website that ‘apparently’ verifies from a JPMorgan Chase employee what many people already believe regarding the conspiratorial aspect of the relationships and manipulations between the biggest most powerful banks and elected officials. The following letter reveals the conscience of someone there who simply cannot stand by and let it happen without saying something, while hoping that others will come forward.

Frankly, I’m shocked that this is still up on their website at this moment, but will not be surprised to see it removed, so I’m copying the text here. Among the excessive greed, corruption, and manipulation going on at these ‘institutions’, lets hope that there are enough good people left to call out those that are bad.

Dear CFTC Staff,

Hello, I am a current JPMorgan Chase employee. This is an open letter to all commissioners and regulators. I am emailing you today b/c I know of insider information that will be damning at best for JPMorgan Chase. I have decided to play the role of whistleblower b/c I no longer have faith and belief that what we are doing for society is bringing value to people.  

I am now under the opinion that we are actually putting hard working Americans unaware of what lays ahead at extreme market risk. This risk is unnecessary and will lead to wide-scale market collapse if not handled properly. With the release of Mr. Smith’s open letter to Goldman, I too would like to set the record straight for JPM as well. 

I have seen the disruptive behavior of superiors and no longer can say that I look up to employees at the ED/MD level here at JPM. Their smug exuberance and arrogance permeates the air just as pungently as rotting vegetables. They all know too well of the backdoor crony connections they share intimately with elected officials and with other institutions. 

It is apparent in everything they do, from the meager attempts to manipulate LIBOR, therefore controlling how almost all derivatives are priced to the inherit and fraudulent commodities manipulation. 

They too may have one day stood for something in the past in the client-employee relationship. Does anyone in today’s market really care about the protection of their client? From the ruthless and scandalous treatment of MF Global client asset funds to the excessive bonuses paid by companies with burgeoning liabilities. 

Yes, we at JPMorgan that are in the know are fearful of a cascading credit event being triggered in Greece as they have hidden derivatives in excess of $1 Trillion USD. We at JPMorgan own enough of these through counterparty risk and outright prop trading that our entire IB EDG space could be annihilated within a few short days. The last ten years has been market by inflexion point after inflexion point with the most notable coming in 2008 after the acquisition of Bear. 

I wish to remain anonymous as of now as fear of termination mounts from what I am about to reveal. Robert Gottlieb is not my real name; however he is a trader that is involved in a lawsuit for manipulative trading while working with JPMorgan Chase. He was acquired during our Bear Stearns acquisition and is known to be the notorious person shorting in the silver future market from his trading space, along with Blythe Masters, his IB Global boss. 

However, with that said, we are manipulating the silver futures market and playing a smaller (but still massively manipulative) role in manipulating the gold futures market. We have a little over a 25% (give or take a percentage) position in the short market for silver futures and by your definition this denotes a larger position than for speculative purposes or for hedging and is beyond the line of manipulation. 

On a side note, I do not work directly with accounts that would have been directly impacted by the MF Global fiasco but I have heard through other colleagues that we have involvement in the hiding of client assets from MF Global. This is another fraudulent effort on our part and constitutes theft. I urge you to forward that part of the investigation on to the respective authorities. 

There is something else that you may find strange. During month-end December, we were all told by our managers that this was going to be a dismal year in terms of earnings and that we should not expect any bonuses or pay raises. Then come mid-late January it is made known that everyone received a pay raise and/or bonus, which is interesting b/c just a few weeks ago we were told that this was not likely and expected to be paid nothing in addition to base salary. 

January is right around the time we started increasing our short positions quite significantly again and this most recent crash in gold and silver during Bernanke’s speech on February 29th is of notable importance, as we along with 4 other major institutions, orchestrated the violent $100 drop in Gold and subsequent drops in silver. 

As regulators of the free people of this country, I ask you to uphold the most important job in the world right now. That job is judge and overseer of all that is justice in the most sensitive of commodity markets. There are many middle-income people that invest in the physical assets of silver, gold, as well as mining stocks that are being financially impacted in a negative way b/c of our unscrupulous shorts in the precious metals commodity sector. 

If you read the COT with intent you will find that commercials (even though we have no business being in the commercial sector, which should be reserved for companies that truly produce the metal) are net short by a long shot in not only silver, but gold. 

It is rather surprising that what should be well known liabilities on our balance sheet have not erupted into wider scale scrutinization. I call all honest and courageous JPMorgan employees to step up and fight the cronyism and wide-scale manipulation by reporting the truth. We are only helping reality come to light therefore allowing a real valuation of our banking industry which will give investors a chance to properly adjust without being totally wiped out. 

I will be contacting a lawyer shortly about this matter, as I believe no other whistleblower at JPMorgan has come forward yet. Our deepest secrets lie within the hands of honest employees and can be revealed through honest regulators that are willing to take a look inside one of America’s best kept secrets. Please do not allow this to turn into another Enron.

Much of what the United States might have achieved through a visionary energy policy—lower prices, lower carbon emissions, less reliance on dirty coal and foreign oil—is coming to pass as a result of abundant natural gas from hydraulic fracturing, said the recently retired CEO of one of America’s largest energy companies.
“We are backing ourselves into rationality, but it’s only because of this incredible national blessing of cheap natural gas,” said John Rowe, who retired 17 days ago as chairman and CEO of Exelon Corporation.

On Thursday Rowe told about 50 people at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy that natural gas is the only rational fuel for new energy plants and that it can replace archaic coal plants for relatively little expense.

“No one in their right mind in the market would build anything other than a gas-fired power plant right now,” he said.

In the preliminary stages of my research in the early 1990s, I had no informed idea of how deep below the surface underground bases could reach. By chance I had gone to hear a public talk by a man I did not know, on a topic that had nothing whatsoever to do with underground bases.

However, during the talk he unexpectedly made an offhand comment that caused me to think that he knew something about secret underground facilities. A few days later, I telephoned him and asked if I could come by his office to speak with him.

He consented to give me a little of his time, so I went by and asked him some questions, including about a specific location where I believed there was a secret underground base. He verified that there was a base there and told me that it was one mile deep.

At the time, that seemed improbably deep to me. I now understand, however, that it is well within the state of the art of the underground excavation and construction industries to build facilities one mile deep. In fact, facilities can be even deeper than that.

Other information that has since been given to me has raised the question of facilities possibly as deep as 12 to 14 miles. Frankly, I do not know what the technological limits are in the super-secret, black budget realm of compartmentalized programs.

Based on their findings, a cohort of scientists hasdetermined that narcolepsy rates increased significantly following mass vaccination campaigns with Pandemrix. Compiled data has revealed that between 2002 and 2009, the narcolepsy rate among children under age 17 was 0.31 per 100,000. But in 2010, that number jumped to 5.3 per 100,000, which represents a 17-fold increase.
